Exam Pattern of Polytechnic Admission Test

                              About Technical Education: Polytechnic
   Technical Education in Assam started with the establishment of Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering & Technology at Jorhat before independence in 1927.It has been a long journey of evolution of State technical Education in the State of Assam. Directorate of Technical Education, Assam was established at 1960. Now there are 10 Govt. Polytechnic Institutions under this Directorate. In the Technical Education front, there has been phenomenal growth in the recent past. The first Diploma Institution- Assam Textile Institution was established at Guwahati in1920.

How to apply
(For eligibility criterion and other conditions, kindly read the online Information Brochure provided very carefully)
Before applying online, keep the following points in mind:
  1.Applicants are required to apply only through Online mode, no other means/mode of  submission of  application form will be accepted.
  2.The link to fill up online application form will remain active up to midnight of 04/04/2015. Applicants are advised to fill up the online application form well in advance, without waiting for the last date, to avoid the last minute hassle.
 3.Please keep your ‘scanned photograph’ and ‘scanned signature’ ready with you in the following format :
          o   Your recent scanned photograph only in .jpg format (file size should not exceed 100 KB)
          o   Your scanned signature only in .jpg format. (file size should not exceed 100 KB
)

Registration Process
Step 1 - If you want to apply for Polytechnic Courses, select option -
"Apply for Diploma Courses"
(Except Modern Office Management)
       If you want to apply for Modern Office Management course of Girl’s Polytechnic, select option –
“Apply for Diploma Course of Modern Office Management”
After clicking on any one of the options the Application Form for Polytechnic Admission Test – 2015 will appear.
Step 2 – Before filling up the Application Form, read all the eligibility criteria given in the Information Brochure (downloadable) given. Don’t leave any blank entry if it is mandatory to fill. Fill the Application form properly, upload the photograph & signature and save the Application form by clicking the ‘Submit’ button. You have the liberty to modify the information in the Application form till submission of Payment details.

Step 3 – Once the Application form is saved, a ‘Application Number’ will be generated. Note down the number and keep it securely for future use. Now, click on “Next” to continue, you’ll be taken to the Applicant Login Area.

Step 4 – Now, take a print-out of ‘Bank Challan’ by clicking ‘Print Bank Challan’ link. The Challan has 3 parts. Part I is the DTE copy, Part II is the Applicant’s copy and Part III is the Bank’s copy.

You may close the window now and proceed for depositing the “Application Fee” at any Branch of “State Bank of India (SBI)”.

Step 5 –Deposit Rs. 400/- along with the generated Challan in any Branch of SBI.

Step 6 – After depositing, you will receive both the DTE copy and the Applicant’s copy of the Bank Challan from the Bank. After making payment at Bank, proceed to the next step for entering the details of payment at the website.

Step 7 – Log on to www.dteassam.in

 and click on Online Application for PAT 2015. In the next page, click on “Applicant Login” situated in the top Menu bar, an Applicant Login Screen will appear. Sign in your account using your ‘Application Number’ & your ‘Date of Birth’.
You’ll be taken to the Applicant Login Page.

Step 8 – Click on the option ‘Enter Fee Payment Details’

Step 9 – Enter (a) Bank Journal No. (b) Name of Branch of Bank, (c) Deposit Date, and press ‘Submit Payment Info’ button to continue.

Step 10 – Next, Click on ‘Print of Application form’ from the Applicant Login Page. Take two (2) copies of print-out of your Application form, one for your reference and the other for submission to DTE Office. Put your LTI (Left Thumb Impression) in the given space provided in the Printed Application Form

Step 11  Submit the Application form (along with the DTE copy of Bank Challan) through Speed post to the following address:

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE ADMIT CARD

  1. Log on to www.dteassam.in and click on Online Application for PAT 2015. In the next page, click on “Applicant Login” situated in the top Menu bar, an Applicant Login Screen will appear. Sign in your account using your ‘Application Number’ & your ‘Date of Birth’. You’ll be taken to the Applicant Login Page.
  2. Click on ‘Download Admit Card’ (available after 01-05-2015)
  3. Your Admit Card will be generated. You can now take the Print out of your ADMIT CARD.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for admission, a candidate shall have to fulfill the following conditions:

 (i) Civil/ Mechanical/  Electrical/   Electronics  and  Telecommunication/Auto  mobile/ Computer  Engineering/  Instrumentation              Technology/  Chemical/Textile  Technology/Agricultural  Engineering./Architectural  Assistantship/Textile  Chemistry and  Design/Civil Engg, and  Planning.

  3 years (six semester) Final    Examination in each Semester  end

 Passed in H.S.L.C. Examination  or its equivalent from the Board  of Secondary Education, Assam  or its equivalent Examination  from any other recognised Board  of Education/ Examinations or  T.S.L.C. Examination of S.C.I.E.,  Assam in a single sitting.

 (ii) Garment Technology/ Fashion Technology:

 3 years (six semester) Final  Examination in each Semester end 

 Passed in H.S.S.L.C.  Examination, In Arts, Science or  Commerce from the Assam  Higher Secondary Education  Council or its equivalent  examination from recognised  Boards or Universities in a Single  sitting.The Principal, Girls'  Polytechnic will conduct a test in  the subject English on the day of i  nterview and admission.

B. POST DIPLOMA COURSES

 (iv) Computer  Application 

 1 "2 years (three semester)  Examination in each Semester end. 

 Diploma in any Branch of  Engineering of S.C.T.E., Assam  or from any Polytechnics  approved by A.I.C.T.E.

Polytechnic Admission Test: Must appear and qualify in the Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) for the concerned academic session for the courses as notified by the D.T.E. except for Modern Office Management (Diploma Course).

Age Limit: For all the courses having entry qualification H.S.L.C.or its equivalent, the upper age limit is 20 years on the first day of August of the year of Admission. In case of Modern Office Management Garment Tech./Fashion Tech. courses the upper age limit is 22 years on the 1st day of August of the year of Admission. The upper age limit is relaxable by three years in case of candidates belonging to S.C. & S. T. There is no upper age limit for the Post Diploma Courses.

Medical Standard: A candidate should be physically fit and mentally sound and should possess the minimum physical standard of Height 1.5 meters ,weight 41 Kg. Chest 72cms. with minimum expansion of 2.5cms & free from any physical handicap, which is likely to obstruct in efficient performance of professional duties. The physical standards are relaxable in case of Girl candidates to a limited extent.
The candidates, after obtaining provisional selection shall have to undergo medical examination at the respective health unit of the Polytechnic concerned and obtain medical fitness certificates in proper forms from the corresponding Medical Officer, deputed by the institute authority, on payment of the requisite fee.

Residential Eligibility: Candidates must be an Indian Citizen and permanent resident of Assam.

Reservation of seats:
       Subjects to maintaining the qualifying standards and other eligibility conditions for reservation of seats in the Polytechnics of Assam is made for the following categories of candidates of the State of Assam.
         • Scheduled Castes                         :        7%,
•         Scheduled Tribes (Plains)               :        10%,
•         Scheduled Tribes(Hills)                  :        5%
•         O.B.C(including M.O.B.C.)              :        15% of annual intake capacity.
•         Sons/Daughters/Grand Sons/Grand Daughters of Freedom Fighters-2 seats in             each Polytechnic and 15 in total.
•         Tea Garden and Ex-tea-garden Labour Community-2 seats in each Polytechnic (within the limit of allocation of O.B.C.)
•         Sportsman (State level or higher) -1 seat in each Polytechnic.
•         N.C.C. (State level or higher)-1 seat in each Polytechnic.
•         Sons and daughters of Retired Defence Personnel - 1 seat in each Polytechnic
•         Physically Handicapped-3% of institute intake capacity.

•         Candidates who are not permanent residents of Assam but are sons/ daughters of employees of Central Government or Central Government Public Sector Undertaking posted in Assam and serving in the State atleast one year preceding the last date fixed for submitting application for admission - 2 seats per Polytechnic and 10 in total. Permanent residence certificate from respective State must be submitted.
Foreign Candidates : As reserved by the Government of India and duly nominated by respective Countries.
Candidates of other States and Union Territories against seats reserved by Government of India and duly nominated by the concern State/Union Territory

                                       HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE ADMIT CARD
1.Log on to 
www.dteassam.in and click on Online Application for PAT 2014. In the next page, click on “Applicant Login” situated in the top Menu bar, an Applicant Login Screen will appear. Sign in your account using your ‘Application Number’ & your ‘Date of Birth’. You’ll be taken to the Applicant Login Page.
2.Click on ‘Download Admit Card’ (available after 25-04-2014)
3.Your Admit Card will be generated. You can now take the Print out of your ADMIT card.  

                                                             Admission test:
Admission test will be held in all the Polytechnics of Assam on the subject Science and Mathematics on the date and time as notified by the D.T.E. There will be two question papers one for Mathematics and the other for Science. The question paper will be of H.S.L.C. level. For the Science paper the Biology portion of the syllabus is not included.
Question paper will be    (a) Science-                     100 Marks             3 Hours,
                                          (b) Mathematics -             100 Marks             3 hours.

The questions will be objective types with multiple-choice answer. Candidate will have to darken the circle against the correct Answer.

Admission Test for Garment Technology & Fashion Technology courses will also be held in all the Polytechnics of Assam on the date and time as notified by the Director of Technical Education.
There will be 2 question papers:-
1. General Knowledge & General English-(50+50 Marks, time 3 hours).
2. Mental ability and Drawing - (50 + 50 marks, time 3 hours).
The result of the Polytechnic Admission Test will be available in the website: www. dte.assom.net

                                                     Interview and selection:
An interview will be held centrally to select the candidates provisionally for admission to the Polytechnics of Assam. The date, venue of which will be published along with the result of the Polytechnic admission test

Choice of polytechnic and branch of Engineering of a candidate will be determined on the basis of merit of the admission test at the time of interview. Final selection against the quota reserved for the categories of N.C.C. and Sports man shall be made by a Selection Board.

If discontinued studies in between passing the last examination of Board/ University a gap certificate must be produced at the time of Interview.

Note: Candidates sponsored by other States. Union Territories and Foreign Countries need not appear in the PAT. But they are required to submit their applications in prescribed forms completed in all respects, when called by the D.T.E. Assam.
