About Common Admission Test (CAT):
    CAT is conducted annually is one of the world’s most demanding entrance examinations for any graduate and is the gateway to the cream and the most coveted management institute of India, the IIMs.
     It is considered to be the most competitive MBA entrance in the world where lakhs of aspirants including the Commerce, Engineering appeared or passed out hurdle to seek admission to the prestigious management colleges in India. An all-India test is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for the admission to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several management institutes in India including the IIMs. On the basis of CAT percentile score, eligible candidates are short listed and called for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI). A candidate should be able to score a certain number of marks in each of the section in order to get a call for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) .Besides IIM, CAT score is accepted by more than 102 non-IIM institutes across india. CAT is generally conducted for PGP, MBA (Management in Business Administration), MBA+PGPM(Post-Graduate Program in Management)+PGCM(Post Graduate Certificate in Management), PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management).
Establishment of IIMs
   The Indian Institutes of Management are public establishments with autonomous control over its day to today operations and curriculum. However, the overall strategy of IIMs is governed by the IIM Council, headed by Minister of Human Resource Development of the Government of India. Today, there are 13 IIMs as public autonomous institutes in India with the most recent one, IIM Kashipur opening in 2011.

CAT Eligibility Criteria:
   A CAT aspirant must hold a Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Persons with Disability (PWD category) from any recognised University of India. If the aspirant is in the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification and have completed degree requirement and are awaiting results, he/she can also apply.
NOTE:(For some programmes offered by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and some other premier management institutes, the eligibility criteria is different )
Test Duration
The test duration is for a total time of 2 hours and 50 minutes (170 minutes). PWD/DA candidates with scribe requirements will be allowed an extra hour. All candidates will start the test at the same time. Candidates are to remain at their seats for the entire duration of the test even if they complete their test early. The Submit button will be enabled only upon completion of test time.
If for any reason, the candidate has to leave the testing hall, he/she will not be allowed to re-enter the hall. In such circumstances, the test would be considered incomplete for the candidate.
At no point during the test, the candidate should touch the keyboard. Doing so will lock the terminal. All answer choices should be made using the mouse.
Test Format
The medium of the test is in English language for all candidates. The test has 100 multiple choice questions across two sections. The two sections are:

HOW TO ATTEMT questions on computer screen:
Candidates may attempt any section first. The questions can be answered out of sequence too. And the candidate can also toggle between sections and attempt questions. An on-screen timer will mark remaining minutes for the test. Three (3) points will be awarded for each correct answer; one (1) point will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no penalty for questions that are left unanswered.
A panel on the right-hand side will display the status of your questions in four colours that indicate the following:
• Green - Answered questions (eg: question 3)
• Red    - Unanswered questions (eg: questions 4 & 5)
• White - Questions not viewed ( eg: questions 6 – 32)
• Violet - Marked for review (eg: questions 1 & 2)
Note: Those questions for which you have answered and you mark for review will have a tick mark (eg: question 1). Those questions you simply mark for review without attempting to answer it will not have a tick mark but will simply be marked in violet colour (eg: question 2)
  While answering the questions, you can use the following options:
• Save & Next: Saves your answer and moves to the next question.
• Clear Response: Clears the already selected answer for the given question only.
• Mark for Review & Next: Marks your question in Violet for review so that you can return later to confirm your answer selection. You will also be prompted at the time of submitting the test, if any questions are marked for review.
You can also view other details related to the test on the bottom of the right panel of the screen such as:
• Question Paper:        You can view all the questions in the test.
• Profile:                           You can view your profile information.
• Instructions:                              You can view the test related instructions.
• Submit:                           Allows you to do the final submission of your test. 
Note: The Submit button will be enabled only upon completion of test time i.e. 170 minutes.

About CAT EXAM Syllabus:
     This is the most repeated question probed when one starts cooking CAT Exam. CAT is a test with no predefined syllabus, but past tendencies advise that CAT in overall aptitude including Quant Ability, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and Data Interpretation. CAT will be 170 minutes long. You will get 85 minutes to answer 50 questions within each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer. Once the time ends for the first section, you will have to move to the second section and will no longer be able to go back. So you should review your answers for the 1st section, within the first 85 minutes.
A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through that carefully before starting the main examination. So including the duration of the tutorial, the total duration of CAT will be Three hours and five minutes. (As per latest information)
CAT basically is an test which checks your command over mathematics. Even though you are not in touch with the contents of the subject for a while you need to polish your fundamentals and get fully prepared for this tough race because only the best would make the way through.
